The Little Wanderer

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
- Psalm 105:4

The Little Wanderer

When I was child my mother tells me I had a bad habit of wandering off on my own.  I know this to be true because I can recall many a times I spent the majority of a family outing trying to find my way back to her. Non-more traumatizing than the time I drifted one two many steps away from my mother’s side at an outdoor art festival.

What initially started as me just getting a closer look at the other children getting their faces painted, ended up as an hour-long mom hunt.  In the first five minutes I assumed that she was just ahead of me in the crowd, but as 15, 20,30 minutes passed I began to worry. By the time an hour had gone by I was in full panic mode. At this point I had lost any sense of decorum and I was sprinting from tent to tent searching for my mother’s familiar face.

Eventually, she found me exhausted, anxious and stretched out on the grass in a hopeless despair! But you know what? I learned just how important it was that I stay by my mother’s side!

In the same manner as Christians we should long to stay as close to Lord as possible. We can get so easily distracted doing our own thing and chasing after our own desires that once we look up we realize we’ve drifted away from God’s will. That’s why it’s vital that we intentionally set aside time to spend with God on a daily basis. Psalms 105:4 tells use to “Seek the Lord and his strength; Seek his presence continually.”

Sometimes we become complacent in our walk with Christ, a bit lazy and at times slothful. That’s ok; we’ve all been there at one point or another. The important thing is that we immediately shift our focus and wholeheartedly chase after Him!
